GERMANY

Just a few worlds about the impression Germany made on us. We are definitely going back to see Berlin and south of the country!

People: Germans are very friendly, almost everyone speaks english, we did not have problems communicating at all. Eastern germans have this familiar "soviet" look in their eyes, but mostly the older generation. Very impressive progress for the country that was so devastated by the war.

Culture: As Eddy Izzard would have said - this is a country "where history comes from".

Food: Germans know good food. Herring in sour cream with apples, home fried potatos and various sausages... yum-yum!

Roads: I read somewhere that the level of country's civilization is determined by conditions of the roads. Well, in this sense Germany is way ahead of US. Autobahn is something else. There's no official speed limit in the most parts of it and people use this freedom wisely. Trucks are not allowed in the left lane and, if you are not going fast enough in the left lane, it is expected that you will move to the right to let people pass you. The road itself has been leveled to the perfection! Normally I can't read in the car, but there it was not a problem at all! During drive to work on the morning after we came back, both of us became nauseous :)

Cars: Lots of BMW, Mercedes ect. But very rarely we saw an X5, which is understandable, given the prices of the car AND gas over there.
